Operator Crypt

Terms of Use

Effective

Version

Applies to
Operator Crypt for Android and iOS

Important

There is no password reset and no back door. If you lose your passphrase and your recovery key, your data cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.

1. The app

Operator Crypt stores passwords and documents encrypted on your device. It works offline and has no account and no server. These terms are an agreement between you and Operator Apps ("the provider"). By installing or using the app you agree to them.

If you obtained the app from Google Play and the Apple App Store, the store's terms also apply (for Apple, the Licensed Application End User License Agreement). Where they conflict with these terms, the store's terms prevail for that store.

2. Licence

You receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control. Third-party components keep their own licences, listed in the app under About & licences and on the licences page.

3. Your responsibility for your keys

There is no reset link and no back door. If you forget your passphrase and lose your recovery key, or forget a custom PIN, the data protected by them is lost permanently and nobody, including the provider, can recover it. Keep the recovery key offline and make encrypted backups.

Decrypted copies you export, save or open in other apps are outside the app's protection. You are responsible for keeping them safe and deleting them.

4. Duress mode

If you mark a vault as a duress vault, opening it permanently destroys every other vault on the device. Use this feature only with full understanding of its effect.

5. Lawful use

Use the app only for lawful purposes and in compliance with the laws that apply to you, including export-control and sanctions laws. Do not use it to store content you are not allowed to possess.

6. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, the provider gives no warranty that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that it protects against every threat (for example malware on your device). Nothing in these terms limits statutory rights you have as a consumer, including the legal guarantee of conformity in the European Union.

7. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the provider is not liable for loss of data caused by lost passphrases, recovery keys or PINs, by the duress feature, by device failure, or by your handling of exported files. The provider remains liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law.

8. Privacy

The Privacy Policy (in the app and on this website) explains that the provider collects no data.

9. Changes and termination

New versions of the app may come with updated terms, shown in the app and published here. You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it, which deletes its data from the device.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the country where the provider is established, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live. EU consumers may also bring proceedings in the courts of their country of residence.
